Refractory Medium carbon ferro manganese Description

(MCFM) is a type of iron alloy that contains manganese and iron in combination with carbon. It is commonly used in the production of electrodes, particularly for E6013 electrodes in the steel industry. In addition to its use in the steel industry, MCFM is also used in other industries such as the casting industry.
MCFM can be produced through various methods, including refining high-C Fe-Mn (High-C MCFM) or the silico-thermic route, which uses silicon in the Si-Mn alloy to reduce additional MnO added as ore or slag. MCFM can also be produced through the carbon-carbon reduction process, where carbon is added to iron or other ferromagnetic materials to produce a ferromagnetic material.
The carbon content of can vary from 1% to 1.5%, with a carbon content of 1% to 1.5% being the most common. The manganese content can range from 75% to 85%, with Mn content ranging from 75% to 85%. The carbon content and manganese content of MCFM can affect its properties, making it suitable for different applications.
In the steel industry, MCFM is used as a deoxidizer and alloy additive. The high C Fe-Mn or high-C MCFM produced from refining high-C Fe-Mn can be used in the smelting process to produce MCFM electrodes. The ratio of manganese to Fe-Mn is generally greater than 7, and the ratio of phosphorus to manganese is less than 0.003.
To produce MCFM electrodes, the Fe-Mn ore needs to be roasted to remove carbon, and then the powder ore needs to be sintered and agglomerated. Ore with high iron and phosphorus content can only be used in combination, or through selective reduction to obtain manganese-rich slag with low iron and low phosphorus. Coke is used as a reducing agent during smelting, and some factories also use lean coal or anthracite as auxiliary raw materials. Lime is usually added as an auxiliary raw material during the smelting process, as it can help to adjust the pH and remove impurities from the slag.
In addition to its use in the steel industry, MCFM is also used in other industries such as the casting industry. MCFM can be used as a deoxidizer and alloy additive in the casting process, which can improve the properties of the castings, such as durability, machinability, and malleability.
